A RARE GLIMPSE OF HOW A LOVER OF GOD LEAVES THIS WORLD

Image
Shortly after this, the birthday of Sri Ramakrishna was celebrated. Maharaj (Swami Brahmananda) stayed at the Belur Math for the occasion; then he returned to Balaram's home in Calcutta. Two days later he had a slight attack of cholera, but recovered within a week. This illness which left him feeble was followed by diabetes, which took a serious turn. Many doctors came to treat him one of whom wore the religious mark on his forehead. "Doctor," said Maharaj, "the Lord Siva, whose symbol you wear on your forehead, is the only Reality. Everything else is unreal." A devotee asked: "Maharaj, are you suffering very greatly?" "Please try to realize," Maharaj answered, "that in my condition I have to bear physical suffering patiently and without complaint." But as he said this, his face lighted up with a divine radiance. The pain seemed to have melted away. He lost external consciousness and became absorbed in medita...

Brother Sevananda - Q & A Session

Thursday Morning Satsanga, SRF  Convocation 2010 Question: Explain God to us.  Satchidananda: ever conscious, ever new bliss. God will answer prayers and guide us. The ego knows that by philosophizing we keep God “out there”.  Question: How do you meditate?  When meditating, it’s difficult not to intellectualize. Master said tune in and “get my meaning.” The difference between meditation and concentration is that meditation is the application of concentration. Use Master’s teachings and keep as simple as we can. The real education is to practice and then we can go back and study.  Question: How do we be still and know that I am God?  Look at Man’s Eternal Quest. Practice the techniques and find out their meaning. It’s God talking to us. Know the aspects of God in you as peace, wisdom, and bliss. Keep the body still; still minds and settled thoughts become calm and clear.  Every person at sometime has a spiritual experience. ...

Inspiration: The Love of God Protects you

Image
Do not long for human love.  This longing in your heart is really the desire for God.  His love you will find will be with you through eternity, and through all your trials and miseries you will feel His love  protecting you.  You came with Him, you are still with Him, yet you deny Him now, but when your loved ones are gone, He still will be with you.  When you hear the voice of God saying that He loves you, then you will be satisfied.  He will never let you be the victim of trials and suffering, for His love will be the power that will guard you.        Human love, when it is charged with the Divine, becomes perfect.  When you cut off the little brook from the fountain, then it is lost.  When you cut off human love from divine love, then it is imperfect.  Remember, you are your own judge.  Will you doom yourself to suffering and ignorance or will you s...

"The Importance of Developing a Personal Relationship with God": Br Vishvananda

Image
Our Guru, Paramahansa Yogananda said: “It isn’t only meditation I emphasize. Meditation plus keeping your mind with God during activity is what is necessary. Half the battle will be won by meditation, for the soul power that you bring out by meditation will influence your thoughts and behavior during activity. When you meditate deeply, that gives substantiation to your spiritual thoughts. The longer and deeper you meditate on a regular basis, the more you will find there is no difference between work and meditation. That is to say, whether you are working or meditating, you remain immersed in the divine consciousness of the blissful Spirit. You no longer identify yourself with the activities and aches and pains of a mortal body; you realize you are pure Spirit.” In all the vast teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, this is the one vital key we have to understand and deeply grasp:  we are not these material bodies, we are not the restless mind, and this world is n...

Brother Bimalananda ( Direct disciple of Sri Paramahansa Yogananda) In Memorium

Image
Br Bimalananda ( Sitting in the center) with SRF monks) Excerpts from courtesy: www.yogananda.net website and e mails from Aarti rajdev (London) With thanks! Our dear Brother Bimalananda exited the body last night. I recall he said that when he met Master, Master spoke to him in Bengali. He asked Master why, and Master said "because we were Bengali babus (gentlemen) together before." To encourage others, he'd say that we were all Bengali brothers and sisters before. A man that lived in joy, and freely gave and inspired others with that joy. He always encouraged devotees to keep contact with Master within by constantly thinking "Om Guru" or the like. And it was him who was building Hollywood Temple when the weight he was carrying up a ladder ma...

Br. Satyananda - The Cosmic Play Of Life And Death

Image
August 22nd 1994 It is like wild water rafting - passing from earth towards the astral world! People feel when their time is 'over' 1990 Brother T. came to Mother Centre and when asked if he needs something he answered: I am only taking one last look around.*** Primary pain is psychological - caused by attachment. Do not fear pain - fear attachment. You get sometimes a glimpse of the 'other world' before dying. When death comes, GOD and GURUS will be there. When life force is withdrawing - last of all the hearing goes. You feel a slight sense of suffocation and then you fly - you are free. But there is a stop, your Guru is there, this is judgement day, but you judge yourself, you see your life, how much have you loved others, how much have you loved GOD, how kind you were to others etc. You see what you need for your next step. You are off again, flying towards light and then you are out and in the astral! You are surrounded by loved ones, old friends, you talk together...

The Serenity Prayer

Image
courtesy pandu ranga reddy k [k.pandurangareddy@gmail.com] The Serenity Prayer God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen. --Reinhold Niebuhr

Forget that anyone else exists in this world; feel that you are standing in the center of eternity - alone with the Divine from whom you have sprung, only God and you. Pray to Him, in the language of your soul, that He fulfill your deepest yearnings: for peace, for happiness and love, for the unshakable security of His presence in which no trouble or fear of this mortal realm can ever intrude. Be filled with the light of that Eternal Presence, and send out prayerful thoughts of divine love - of peace on earth and good will toward all humanity. Why Is Life So Full of Tests?

Image
by Paramahansa Yogananda Inner Culture Magazine April 1941 Through tests we learn life’s lessons. Tests are not meant to crush us: They are to develop our powers. They come through the natural law of progress and are necessary for us to advance from lower to higher steps. Mind is the source of all your troubles and all your happiness. You really are stronger than all your tests. If you don’t realize it now, you will have to realize it later. God has given you the power to control your mind and body and thus be free from pain and sorrow. Never say, “I am through.” Do not poison your mind by thinking that if you walk a little more you will over-exert yourself, or if you cannot get certain foods you will suffer, and so on. Never allow your mind to entertain thoughts of illness or limitation: You will see your body change for the better. Remember that mind is the power that is creating this body, and if the mind is weak, the body becomes weak. Don’t grieve or worry about anything. If you s...

* Nepal 'Buddha Reincarnation' Slideshow: Nepal 'Buddha Reincarnation' KATMANDU, Nepal – A Nepalese teenager revered by many as a reincarnation of Buddha has returned to the jungle to meditate after emerging for less than two weeks, officials said Saturday. Ram Bahadur Bamjan, 18, reappeared on Nov. 10 after several months of meditation to bless thousands of his followers, speaking to them on at least two occasions. He made his last appearance on Friday and then returned to the jungle to meditate, said Biswo Prakash Newpane, a government administrator in the area. It was not clear when he would return again. His followers lined up near the jungle of Ratanpur, about 100 miles south of Katmandu, to be blessed by Bamjan. He tapped the believers on their forehead but did not speak to them individually. The followers believe he has been meditating without food and water since he was first spotted in the jungles of southern Nepal in 2005. Believers say he spent months wit...

Boss (God's) Letter for you

Image
SEE THE BRIGHT SIDE OF THINGS Date: TODAY From: THE BOSS Subject: YOURSELF Reference: LIFE I am God. Today I will be handling all of your problems. Please remember that I do not need your help. If life happens to deliver a situation to you that you cannot handle, do not attempt to resolve it. Kindly put it in the SFGTD (something for God to do) box. All situations will be resolved, but in My time, not yours Once the matter is placed into the box, do not hold onto it by worrying about it. Instead, focus on all the wonderful things that are present in your life now. If you find yourself stuck in traffic; Don't despair. There are people in this world for whom driving is an unheard of privilege. Should you have a bad day at work; Think of the man who has been out of work for years Should you despair over a relationship gone bad; Think of the person who has never known what it's like to love and be loved in return Should you grieve the passing of another weekend; Think of the wo...
