I'm Thankfull - Meaningful Poem

I AM THANKFUL...

FOR THE TAXES I PAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM EMPLOYED.

FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE
BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS.

FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT.

FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE..

FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,
WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,
AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME .

FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING
I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT
BECAUSE IT MEANS
WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.


FOR THE PARKING SPOT
I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING
AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION.

FOR MY HUGE HEATING BILL
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM WARM.




FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH
WHO SINGS OFF KEY


BECAUSE IT MEANS
I CAN HEAR.

FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES
AT THE END OF THE DAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN
CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD.

FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF
IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE.

Jalandhar, August 9 For all those who thought the distant, illusionary treasure of the tales of the mysterious Indian sorcerers, snake charmers and levitating sadhus was just a fraction of the imagination of some archaic storytellers, the masaledaar tale of a treetop sadhu emerging right in the middle of the city today, would act as a cause to reconsider facts and illusions. High drama was witnessed in the Rajinder Nagar locality for over two hours this afternoon when a sadhu climbed up an Ashoka tree and started performing ‘aasanas’ perched on its top. Clad in saffron clothes, the so-called godman tied some twigs of the tree, spread an embellished saffron cloth over them and sat cross-legged, a feat no one would have believed if it wasn’t for their eyes. We lay the flowers of our devotion at Thy beloved lotus feet  Guru Stotram (गुरु स्तोत्रम्) ब्रह्मानन्दं परमसुखदं केवलं ज्ञानमूर्तिं द्वन्द्वातीतं गगनसदृशं तत्वमस्यादिलक्ष्यम् | एकं नित्यं विमलमचलं सर्वधीसाक्षिभूतम् भावतीतं त्रिगुणरहितं सदगुरुं तं नमामि || I prostrate myself before that Guru, the Bliss of Brahman, the bestower of Supreme Happiness, who is Knowledge absolute, transcending the pairs of opposites, expansive like the sky, the goal indicated by the great sayings like “Thou art That”, the one eternal, pure, unchanging, the witness of functions of the intellect, who is above all Bhavas (mental conditions) and the three Gunas (Sattva, Rajas and Tamas).   अखण्डमण्डलाकारं व्याप्तं येन चराचरम् ।  तत्पदं दर्शितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥ Salutation to the noble Guru,, who has made it possible to realise the state which pervades the entire cosmos, everything animate and inanimate. अज्ञानतिमिरान्धस्य ज्ञानाञ्जनशलाकया ।  चक्षुरुन्मीलितं ये...
